Beach Renourishment For AMI

Anna Maria Island beaches, long known for their beauty, have recently gone through an extensive renourishment program.  The $13,000,000 project involved pumping massive amounts of sand from off shore in  the Gulf of Mexico and then redistributing it to the coastline of AMI.  In all, seven miles of storm battered beaches have been restored.   The result couldn't be any better.  The beaches are fabulous.... full post

Baby Boomers Flocking To Florida

According to Moody's Analytics, migration to Florida will rapidly accelerate and level off in the next 4-5 years. This migration is expected to reignite Florida's entire economy, generating more jobs, construction and business sales. It has the potential of a post-Great Recession recovery. Florida economists expect more people to move to Florida in 2013 than during 2008, 2009 and 2010 combined. This increase is due primarily to the number of baby boomers that have reached and will reach retirement age at record breaking numbers. Starting in the year 2013, the 65 year and older group of retirees is projected to increase by 1.4 million every year.

In addition to attractive home sale pricing and record low mortgage rates, "The Sunshine State" has the added attraction of year round warm weather, pristine white sandy beaches, and the obvious fact that it's still cold up north. ... full post

Home Sales On Anna Maria Island Booming!

Real estate sales on Anna Maria Island continued their upward trend for the month of November, coming in at 25% higher than the same period last year. Year to date sales in 2012 are also up 25% over 2011, according to statistics compiled from the local MLS. Also encouraging is the fact that bank owned and short sales made up only 11% of the total properties sold. That is down from 17% in 2011. Due to improved market conditions, most homes are selling at better than 95% of list price, and many at full list price. Sales for 2012 are already the best they have been on the island since 2005, and are actually very close to surpassing that total as well. ... full post

Anna Maria Island Receives "Clean Beach Award"

The Clean Beaches Coalition has recently awarded AMI the "Blue Wave" award, which is national recognition for cleanliness and environmentally friendly projects. There were actually 5 beaches on the island receiving the award, which the organization's founder stated was unusual. This acknowledgement comes on the heels of a 2011 award by Parents Magazine to Coquina Beach (Anna Maria Island) as one of America's Top 10 Best Beaches for Families. Long known for it's pristine waters and white sandy beaches, these type of accolades do not come as a big surprise. But it's flattering just the same, and reminds me again how truly blessed we are to live in such a beautiful place.

Anna Maria Beaches Bounce Back After Tropical Storm Debby

With the unpredictability that is often associated with Mother Nature, Tropical Storm Isaac has repaired much of the damage that Tropical Storm Debby did to the precious beaches of Anna Maria Island. In late June, the tumultuous seas stirred up by Debby, caused devastating erosion, and actually carved canals all up and down the 7 mile island.
Miraculously, Isaac was kind enough to stop by and significantly restore and smooth out the beautiful white sand that so many walkers and joggers have come to rely on. As scary as it is, Mother Nature never ceases to amaze.
